THE SNORTING OF DAN’S HORSES
The
snorting of his horses was heard from Dan
Jeremiah 8:16-17
NET The snorting of the enemy's
horses is already being heard in the city of Dan. The sound of the neighing of
their stallions causes the whole land to tremble with fear. They are coming to
destroy the land and everything in it! They are coming to destroy the cities
and everyone who lives in them!"
(17) The LORD says, "Yes
indeed, I am sending an enemy against you that will be like poisonous snakes
which cannot be charmed away. And they will inflict fatal wounds on you."
Beast Thoughts
Who is the beast/antichrist? What is his nationality? Where will be originate? Many Biblical exegetes and commentators
consider the answer is found in Daniel 9:26-27 and that the antichrist will be
a Roman. Some current writers, such as
Joel Richardson, consider the Roman troops to be of Syrian origin and thus the
antichrist will be an Arab. A few
believe the 70 weeks of Daniel scripture has been misunderstood and
misinterpreted and that it has nothing to do with Rome or Jesus as the
Messiah. It can be said the word usually
translated as “Messiah” in some versions should actually be translated as
“anointed one” which is anyone called or anointed by God for a specific purpose
such as Cyrus the Great. I have even
read a treatise claiming the “little horn” of Daniel 7:8 should actually be
Antiochus Epiphanies and is not referring to the antichrist until later in the
chapter.
I have recently come across an exegete who claims that in
addition to reading scripture in a natural verbatim manner one should read it
in a parabolic nature. Some commentators
view some chapters of Daniel as referring to historical events but then draw a
proverbial line at some point they believe it is referring to the
beast/antichrist. The aforementioned
exegete views chapters 2, 7, 8, 9, 11, and 12 as a series of parable teachings
referring to the acts of the beast/antichrist.
There seems to be an abundance of antichrist theories but
apparently no one appears to investigate or rely on a few early Church writers
who may have had an inside track concerning the beast individual’s
identity. These writers would be
Polycarp, Irenaeus, and Hippolytus. All
Bible believers accept John the Apostle’s writings as Biblical scripture: 1st John, 2nd John, 3rd
John, and the Revelation but do not place much credence in the above three
early Church writers.
Irenaeus
Irenaeus
c.115-202 was a disciple of Polycarp who was, in turn, a disciple of John the Apostle
and was also the bishop of Ephesus. The teachings (writings) of Irenaeus are
considered among the most important of early Christianity. Very few writings of Polycarp are currently
extant but he was a devoted disciple of John and spent much time with his
immediate disciple, Irenaeus. It would
be expected that Polycarp gave Irenaeus as much information and knowledge
available to him which would include any information divulged by John. As a young man, Irenaeus was personally
tutored by Polycarp. It could be expected that many teachings, stories, and
asides concerning John were shared between the two individuals. Polycarp lived to 85, so there should have
been much opportunity for Irenaeus to absorb the teachings of John.
In his major work, Against Heresies, Irenaeus commits an entire section to discussing
the name of Antichrist, which is important considering his source. John perhaps knew the name and identity of
the antichrist and it may have been purposely obscured by God until the proper
time. Below is the final comments
concerning the antichrist found in his treatise, Against Heresies.
[Irenaeus: Against Heresies,
Book V, p. 1117] "These men, therefore, ought to learn [what really is
the state of the case], and go back to the true number of the name, that they
be not reckoned among false prophets. But, knowing the sure number declared by
Scripture, that is, six hundred sixty and six, let them await, in the first
place, the division of the kingdom into ten; then, in the next place, when
these kings are reigning, and beginning to set their affairs in order, and
advance their kingdom, [let them learn] to acknowledge that he who shall come
claiming the kingdom for himself, and shall terrify those men of whom we have
been speaking, having a name containing the aforesaid number, is truly the
abomination of desolation.
This, too, the apostle affirms: ‘When they shall say, Peace
and safety, then sudden destruction shall come upon them.’ And
Jeremiah does not merely point out his sudden coming, but he even indicates the
tribe from which he shall come, where he says, ‘We shall hear the voice of his
swift horses from Dan; the whole earth shall be moved by the voice of the
neighing of his galloping horses: he shall also come and devour the earth, and
the fullness thereof, the city also, and they that dwell therein.’ This, too,
is the reason that this tribe is not reckoned in the Apocalypse along with
those which are saved." [Irenaeus: Against Heresies,
Book V, p. 1117]
In the above statement about the Antichrist, Irenaeus
quotes a portion of 1st Thessalonians 5:3, a verse usually connected with the beginning
of the Tribulation, not the coming of the Antichrist. In other words, he links
the idea of "sudden
destruction" with the Antichrist. He then quotes a prophecy from Jeremiah
indicating the Israelite tribe from which the Antichrist will come which is
Dan.
We hoped for good fortune, but nothing good has come of it. We hoped
for a time of relief, but instead we experience terror. The snorting of the
enemy's horses is already being heard in the city of Dan. The sound of the
neighing of their stallions causes the whole land to tremble with fear. They
are coming to destroy the land and everything in it! They are coming to destroy
the cities and everyone who lives in them!" The LORD says, "Yes
indeed, I am sending an enemy against
you that will be like poisonous snakes which cannot be charmed away. And
they will inflict fatal wounds on you." (Jeremiah 8:15-17 NET)
The people were saying “peace and good fortune” but
received the opposite effect. Also
notice the above NET version states the enemy consisting of the Dan/beast
military will be like “poisonous snakes”.
The Samson
Riddle
The Biblical Samson was a Nazarite, an appointed judge of
Israel, and he was not to cut his hair.
The Bible and Samson proclaim that his long hair is the source of his
strength. On his way to see the
Philistine woman, Timnath, Samson encounters a young lion and kills it. On another trip he sees the carcass of the
lion has been invaded with honey bees with an allotment of honey. At his wedding feast, Samson wagers 30
changes of clothes with some Philistines if they can interpret a riddle: “Out of
the one who eats came something to eat; out of the strong one came something
sweet” (NET).
An exegete, Janet Moser, considers this Samson episode to
be a Messianic prophecy. The dead lion
represents Jesus of the Lion tribe of Judah “who was delivered up because of our transgressions” (Romans 4:25). The prize of garments represents deliverance,
“I will be overjoyed because of my God.
For He clothes me in garments of deliverance” (Isaiah 61:10 NET). The honey represents “land of milk and honey”
as in the Millennial kingdom.
Another exegete sees the dead lion with honey as symbolic
of Dan/beast/antichrist waging war on Israel.
Dan as the antichrist will attempt to destroy (kill) Israel
(Judah/Judeans/Jews) symbolized as the lion of Judah with the honey producing
bees, symbolizing the tribe of Dan and will attempt to produce a golden
age symbolized by the honey.
Dan, the Judge
of His People
Genesis 49:16-17
NET Dan will judge his people as one
of the tribes of Israel. (17) May Dan be a snake beside the road, a viper
by the path, that bites the heels of the horse so that its rider falls
backward.
The prophecy issued by the dying Jacob that Dan will
judge his people is considered by some to have been fulfilled with the Danite
judge Samson although his preoccupation seemed to be carousing rather than
judging. Irenaeus and others consider
this prophecy unfulfilled but will find fulfillment in the beast/antichrist. The initial verse of this chapter, Genesis
49:15, begins with Jacob stating, “Gather yourselves together, that I may tell
you that which shall befall you in the last days” (KJV). Other versions have: last days; days to come; end of days; and the
future. It strongly appears to be
referring to the 70th week of Daniel.
The Hebrew word for adder is shphiyphon, and is derived from the root
term shuwph, which means to gape, to
snap at, to overwhelm, and is rendered to break, bruise, and cover. Thus it seems apparent that Jacob’s
perception of his son according to the prophecy is not positive. He tells us that Dan the serpent will be in
the path of the rider and his horse; and that he will bite at the horse’s heels,
causing him to fall backward. Thus Dan
is prophesied to be an impediment, an opponent, and negative force in the last-days. No other individual human being is compared
to the serpent other than Dan in the Biblical scriptures. God prophesied to the serpent in Genesis 3:15
that he would bruise or attack the heel of one of her offspring.
And I will put hostility between
you and the woman and between your offspring and her offspring; her offspring
will attack your head, and you will attack her offspring's heel." (Genesis 3:15 NET)
If the beast/antichrist is descended from the tribe of
Dan, then consider the possibility of a certain type of Godly judgment. God is the sovereign judge of the world and
its inhabitants. In some instances
throughout the Old Testament, when God judged the Israelites He employed the
army of another nation or kingdom:
Egypt; Assyria; and Babylon. In
the last-days an apostatized Israel may be judged by the military might of the
Danite/beast/antichrist.
During the promised land allotment, the tribe of Dan was
the seventh in land inheritance. They were
originally placed along the coast north of Judah and west of Benjamin in an
area contested by the Philistines. This
original area did not appeal to them and they moved to the east alongside the
tribes of Asher and Naphtali, and south of the Sidonians to a place called
Laish (or Leshem) which would now be considered part of southern Lebanon.
(The Danites failed to conquer
their territory (from the Philistines),
so they went up and fought with Leshem and captured it. They put the sword to
it, took possession of it, and lived in it. They renamed it Dan after their ancestor.
) This was the land assigned to the tribe of Dan by its clans, including these
cities and their towns. (Joshua 19:47-48

The book of Judges gives the details of Dan’s northern
migration. First, they ventured northward into the land of Judah and the
village of Kirjath-jearim. Then they went into north-central Israel and the
territory around mount Ephraim. On the
way to Laish, they stole religious objects belonging to Micah, the Ephraimite,
which they intended to use for themselves.
Now the Danites took what Micah
had made, as well as his priest, and came to Laish, where the people were
undisturbed and unsuspecting. They struck them down with the sword and burned
the city. No one came to the rescue because the city was far from Sidon and
they had no dealings with anyone. The city was in a valley near Beth Rehob. The
Danites rebuilt the city and occupied it. They named it Dan after their
ancestor, who was one of Israel's sons. But the city's name used to be Laish.
The Danites worshiped the carved image. Jonathan, descendant of Gershom, son of
Moses, and his descendants served as priests for the tribe of Dan until the
time of the exile. (Judges 18:27-30 NET)
It should be noted that Danites were almost always
idolators and never a follower of God, unless possibly at the beginning of
their Canaan existence.
However, Jehu did not repudiate
the sins which Jeroboam son of Nebat had encouraged Israel to commit; the
golden calves remained in Bethel and Dan. (2 Kings 10:29 NET)
Dating from around 1056 BC, the book of 1st
Chronicles omits the tribe of Dan in its historical account from Adam to the
established areas of the twelve tribes.
It could be that most of the tribe of Dan had already moved farther
north at this point. There were some
still remaining in the area and could have been blending with the Phoenicians
as assumed from a letter from Hiram to Solomon.
Now I am sending you Huram Abi,
a skilled and capable man, whose mother is a Danite and whose father is a
Tyrian….. (2 Chronicles 2:13-14 NET)
Due to their close proximity and relationships with the
Phoenicians, the Danites became a seafaring people.
Gilead beyond the Jordan did
tabernacle, And Dan--why doth he sojourn in ships? Asher hath abode at the
haven of the seas, And by his creeks doth tabernacle. (Judges 5:17 YLT)
The northern ten tribes of Israel were overthrown by the
Assyrian empire and either killed or taken prisoner to the northern area of the
Caspian Sea. If the majority of Danites
were around at this time is mostly not known.
However, the northern tribes including Dan essentially disappeared from
historical writings after the Assyrian conquest. Several hundred years later the Babylonians
conquered and dispersed the vast majority of Judah. Some eventually returned from Babylon/Persia
which brings us to the Greek empire.
The Lion’s Whelp
And of Dan he said, Dan is a lion's whelp (cub): he shall
leap from Bashan.
(Deuteronomy 33:22 KJV)
Chapter 32 is introduced as blessings applied to the
twelve tribes given by Moses. Dan is the
only tribe not given a blessing and this is the shortest so-called blessing
stated by Moses. Judah is called a lion
but Dan is called a lion’s cub or whelp.
It could be that a Danite as the beast/antichrist will appear or assume to
be the Messiah. After all, the beast
does announce himself as “god”.
The word for whelp can be used
two different ways. It can strictly be
defined as a young lion and can be defined as: to turn
aside from the road (for a lodging or any other purpose), sojourn (as a guest);
also to shrink, fear (as in a strange place); also to gather for hostility (as afraid).
With the combined symbology of a snake and lion’s cub it begins
to confirm the prophecy that Danite/antichrist will be empowered by Satan.
Be sober and alert. Your enemy
the devil, like a roaring lion, is
on the prowl looking for someone to devour.
(1 Peter 5:8 NET)
I consider Jeremiah 4 to be a last-days prophecy
particularly concerning the ending of those days. The proclaimed military is compared to a lion that destroys nations. This military is coming to destroy Israel.
Like a lion that has come up from its lair the one who destroys nations
has set out from his home base. He is coming out to lay your land waste. Your
cities will become ruins and lie uninhabited. (Jeremiah 4:7 NET)
The words of Moses concerning Dan may contain in them a
veiled hint that something dreadful would be associated with this tribe (or a
man of this tribe) in the future.
The Greek
Empire
Alexander the Great supposedly left Judah intact when he
was shown prophecies from the book of Daniel.
When Alexander died his empire was divided by four generals and they did
not leave Judah intact. General
historical documents, the book of Daniel, and the 1st Book of the
Maccabees gives some insights into the Judeans conflict with the Greek Seleucid
dynasty. The dynasty begins with the
general, Seleucus 1, followed by Antiochus 1 Soter, continuing up to Antiochus
IV Epiphanes, who was overthrown by the Maccabeans in 164 BC.
After Antiochus Epiphanes, many years of war continued
with the Romans and Seleucids attempting to retake the Judean territory. Jonathan Maccabeus managed to maintain
peaceful relationships with Rome and the Greek Spartans. Jonathan sent emissaries to Rome for treaty
renewal and letters to Sparta for the same purpose. A letter from Arius, King of Sparta, back to
Judah is recorded in 1st Maccabees:

king of the Lacedemonians to Onias the high priest, greeting: It is found in writing, that the Lacedemonians and Jews are brethren,
and that they are of the stock of Abraham:
Now therefore, since this is come to our knowledge, ye shall do well to
write unto us of your prosperity. We do
write back again to you, that your cattle and goods are our's, and our's are
your's We do command therefore our ambassadors to make report unto you on this
wise.
It would appear the Greek Spartans are Israelites,
although the word Jews is used. But
which tribe of Israel are the Spartans associated? Further evidence is supplied by Josephus in
the Antiquities of the Jews.
"Areus, King Of The
Lacedemonians, To Onias, Sendeth Greeting
"We have met with a certain
writing, whereby we have discovered that both the Jews and the Lacedemonians
are of one stock, and are derived from the kindred of Abraham. It is but just,
therefore, that you, who are our brethren, should send to us about any of your
concerns as you please. We will also do the same thing, and esteem your
concerns as our own, and will look upon our concerns as in common with yours.
Demotoles, who brings you this letter, will bring your answer back to us. This
letter is four-square; and the seal is an
eagle, with a dragon in his claws." Antiquities, XII, iv, 10
The key phrase (the final one in bold type) is a
description of the Spartan signet “an eagle, with a dragon in his claws”.
The signet is stated as being four-square. The wilderness
camp layout of Israel was also foursquare.
The lead tribes were located at the four points of the compass, with
Judah in the east, Reuben in the south, Ephraim in the west, and Dan in the
north.
The below historical passage appears to be describing the
Hebrew exodus from Egypt with a few altered facts and events. Note that a group under the leadership of
Danaus (as in Dan) went to Greece rather than with the Hebrews under Moses.
A similar historical document written by Diodorus of
Sicily says the following:
“They say also that those who set forth with DANAUS, likewise
from Egypt, settled what is practically the oldest city of Greece, Argos,
and that the nations of the Colchi in Pontus and that of the Jews, which lies
between Arabia and Syria, were founded as colonies by certain emigrants from
their country (Egypt); and this is the reason why it is a long-established
institution among these peoples to circumcise their male children...the custom
having been brought over from Egypt. Even the Athenians, they say, are colonists
from Sais in Egypt” (History of the World, Bk. I, sec. 28, pp. 1-5)
Both Greek and Irish history confirm that a contingent of
the Danaans, called the Twuatha de Danaan, literally the Tribe of Dan, left Greece
at a certain point, and migrated north via various navigable rivers to the
Baltic Sea, and from there to Denmark and parts of southern Sweden, across the
North Sea to Scotland, and finally Ireland.
The Romans
The Seleucid dynasty was primarily based in Syria after
Antiochus Epiphanes was driven out by the Maccabees. This empire was eventually merged into the
Roman Empire with an expected blending of Roman and Greek bloodlines. An historian wrote that he believed the Greek
blending carried the bloodline of Dan and that the Flavians of 70AD could be
considered to be of Danite genealogy.
The Flavian Dynasty was a Roman
Imperial Dynasty,
which ruled the Roman Empire between AD 69 and AD 96,
encompassing the reigns of Vespasian (69–79), and his two sons Titus (79–81) and Domitian
(81–96). [Wikipedia]
The North
During the trek from Egypt to the promised land, the
tribe of Dan’s camping position in the wilderness was north of the Tabernacle
along with Asher and Naphtali.
"...Dan became the very
type of evildoing. He was placed in the north (Num. ii.25), this being the
region of darkness and evil (Jer. i.14)..." (Singer, Jewish Encyclopedia
("Dan"), p. 423)
It seems the north is always the direction of coming
destruction and judgment. Virtually all
of Israel’s invading enemies were from the north or considered to be from the
north, even Babylon which is actually toward the East but invaded Judah from
the north.
Then the LORD said unto me, Out
of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land. (Jeremiah 1:14 KJV)
The disputed Gog-Magog invasion also comes from the
north. Notice the people consider themselves
as living securely, “Now when they are
saying, "There is peace and security," then sudden destruction comes
on them, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will surely not escape”
(1 Thessalonians 5:3 NET). Ezekiel
states that Gog will invade with horses, “The
snorting of the enemy's horses is already being heard in the city of Dan”
(Jeremiah 8:16). This is just
something to consider with no conclusions being fostered.
"Therefore, prophesy, son
of man, and say to Gog: 'This is what the sovereign LORD says: On that day when
my people Israel are living securely, you will take notice and come from your
place, from the remote parts of the north, you and many peoples with you, all
of them riding on horses, a great company and a vast army. (Ezekiel 38:14-15 NET)
Dan’s position in the wilderness camp was in the
north. As mentioned earlier, after their
land allotment, the tribe of Dan became unhappy warring with the Philistines
and migrated to the north of most of the other tribes into southern Lebanon
close to Mt. Hermon. This would place them at the north of the Canaan area alongside
Asher and Naphtali, the same relationship as their position during the
wilderness camps.
"Part of the tribe of Dan,
unable to secure its inheritance, migrated north and captured Laish, renaming
it Dan." (Atlas of the Bible Lands, p. 8)
"...the Jordan river that
weaves like a snake along the eastern border of the land of Israel is named
after the ancient tribe of Dan. Jordan means 'the going down of the Dan.'"

Was the tribe of Dan purposely located by God in the
northern sector of the camp as a type of prophetic indication that this tribe
would produce the unrighteous judge, attempting to usurp the position of the
true righteous Judge?
If a Danite will become the antichrist some may consider
Lucifer of Isaiah 14 to be related to the Danite antichrist.
How art thou fallen from heaven,
O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst
weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into
heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the
mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: (Isaiah 14:12-13 KJV)
According to Ugaritic texts Zaphon was the sacred
mountain of the storm god Baal (Baal-Hadad in ancient Canaanite mythology) and
the location where the gods assembled as in Isaiah 14:13. Some references consider the mountain similar
to Mount Olympus in Greek mythology.
Some versions, such as the NET, translate “tsâphôn” as Zaphon or Mt. Zaphon which is
a mountain located in the northern part of Gad and would be close to the Sea of
Galilee. Strong’s, Word Study, and BDB dictionaries only define the word as
“north” and never as Zaphon. In Jeremiah
1:14 the north is listed as a source of violence or evil. It was used of both Mt Zion and Mt Hermon of
the north (Psalm 48:2; Psalm 89:12).
Using the Greenwich Zero Meridian, the northern territory
of Dan lies at 35.5 degrees longitude. However, if the Paris Zero Meridian is
used, having a 2.5 difference from Greenwich, Dan is found to lie at the 33rd
degree longitude and 33 degree latitude.
It has been assumed by some that Masonry and the Protocols of the
Learned Elders of Sion is a Danite creation.
The Snake and
the Eagle
Dan’s color standard was red and white and the crest was
an eagle. Because Jacob had prophesied
Dan as a snake or serpent the tribe decided to substitute an eagle which is a
killer of snakes. The Spartans of Greece
were supposedly occupying this area around 550 BC which would be several years
after the Assyrian conquest of the northern nation of Israel. The tribe of Dan may have fled by ships to
southern Greece. The Iliad by
Homer refers to the Spartans as Danaans.
Greek history relates two originations of Danaans: one from Egypt and the other from
Phoenecia. Both would be correct
concerning the tribe of Dan. They
originally came from Egypt with Moses and later settled in Greece from the area
of Phoenecia.
The Testaments of the Twelve Patriarchs: The
Testament of Dan, Chapter 2
6 For I have read in the book of
Enoch, the righteous, that your prince is Satan, and that all the spirits of
wickedness and pride will conspire to attend constantly on the sons of Levi, to
cause them to sin before the Lord.
Considering the symbolism of a snake or serpent, much can
be made of the apparent fact the tribe of Dan appears to have left a trail in
their numerous migrations throughout the world.
This trail appears to be littered with Dan-type names that can be traced
and followed, such as a serpent would make as it slithers along the
ground. There is undoubtedly a great
deal of truth to this assertion, for Dan surpassed by far all of the tribes of
Israel in its ability and desire to travel, explore, and colonize, a reality
that already connects this particular tribe with the sea-faring branch of Edomites
who settled in the coastal area of Phoenicia.
Horses Like Eagles
Look! The enemy is approaching
like gathering clouds. The roar of his chariots is like that of a whirlwind.
His horses move more swiftly than eagles." I cry out, "We are doomed,
for we will be destroyed!" "Oh people of Jerusalem, purify your
hearts from evil so that you may yet be delivered. How long will you continue
to harbor up wicked schemes within you? For messengers are coming, heralding
disaster, from the city of Dan and from the hills of Ephraim. (Jeremiah 4:13-15 NET)

C 373 AD "At the end of the
world at the final consummation . . . suddenly the gates of the north shall be
opened... They will destroy the earth, and there will be none able to stand
before them. After one week of that sore
affliction (tribulation), they will all be destroyed in the plain of Joppa . .
.Then will the son of perdition appear, of the seed and of the tribe of Dan . .
.He will go into Jerusalem and will sit upon a throne in the Temple saying, 'I
am the Christ,' and he will be borne aloft by legions of devils like a king and
a lawgiver, naming himself God" (On the Last Times, the Antichrist, and
the End of the World).
St. Methodius of
Olympus C 250-311 AD “When the son of perdition appears, he will be of the
tribe of Dan, according to the prophecy of Jacob. This enemy of religion will use a diabolic
art to produce many false miracles, such as causing the blind to see, the lame
to walk, and the deaf to hear. Those
possessed with demons will be exorcised.
He will deceive many and, if he could, as our Lord has said, even the
faithful elect. Even the Antichrist will
enter Jerusalem, where he will enthrone himself in the temple as a god (even
though he will be an ordinary man of the tribe of Dan to which Judas Iscariot
also belonged)”

"Dan became the
very type of evil-doing. He was placed to the north (Num. ii. 25), this being

a dynasty that ruled the Franks for nearly 300 years in a region known as Francia,
beginning in the middle of the 5th century AD. Their territory largely
corresponded to ancient Gaul as well as the Roman provinces of Raetia,
Germania Superior and the southern part of Germania.
The Merovingian dynasty was founded by Childeric I
(c. 457 AD – 481 AD), the son of Merovech,
leader of the Salian Franks, but it was his famous son Clovis I
(481 AD – 511 AD) who united all of Gaul under Merovingian rule.

The
Merovingians, who plan to rule the world from their future
throne at Jerusalem, claim to come from the tribe of Judah through Jesus
Christ and Mary Magdalene. However, the weight of evidence indicates
that they descended from the tribe of Dan. Although Scripture states
that Samson was “of the family of the Danites” [Judges 13:2], Yair Davidy
of Brit-Am Israel claims that his mother was from Judah. [Brit-Am Israel

The Merovingian ruling family were sometimes referred to
as the "long-haired kings" (Latin reges criniti) by
contemporaries, as their long hair (as of Samson) distinguished them
among the Franks, who commonly cut their hair short.
"Merovingian geographical place-names and personal
names were sometimes Jewish. In the 6th Century a brother of King Clothair was
named Samson while Miron "Le Levite" was a count. 'Sion' and 'Le
Levite' were Merovingian towns in France. Scholars have even traced Merovingian
'Salic Law' back to Judaic law." [Bradley, p. 179]
"The Merovingian's. . .tradition of long hair and
the name Samson among the Royal House would indicate the descent from Samson
and thus the Tribe of Dan." [Bloomer]
"The Merovingian kings. . .were called the
long-haired Monarchs because they placed great value on their long hair and
believed that it gave them strength. One wonders whether Samson was a
Merovingian ancestor!" [Van Buren, p. 30]
The Spartans
"Now, the question remains, how do we know the
Spartans were the offspring of the tribe of Dan? . . . Aside from the fact that
the Spartans wore long hair as a symbol of their power (like Samson) there is a
legend written about the son of Belus, king of the Spartans -- in which is
given the story of one named 'Danaus,' who arrived in Greece with his daughters
by ship. According to the legend, his daughters called themselves Danades. They
introduced the cult of the mother goddess, which became the established
religion of the Arcadians and developed over the years into the worship of
Diana. . .The Spartans so loved their king that they called themselves Danaans
-- long before they adopted the name of Spartans. Also in the legend is a
record of the arrival of 'colonists from Palestine.' Please note, the man who
headed the expedition was named Danaus. He may well have been of the tribe of
Dan, and thus would have been the progenitor of the ancient Spartans."

The Celts
"There are certain facts that suggest that the Celts
may have derived from a Jewish tradition from the East. The Celtic body of
ecclesiastical and civil knowledge was Druidism. Their system can be traced to
about 1800 B.C. . . It is recorded in
'Welsh Triads' that Hugh Gadarn synthesized the wisdom of the ancients for
those whom he led west from. . .Sumer and Mesopotamia. . . In 'The Psalter of
Cashel' it states that: 'The Tuatha de Danaan' ruled in Ireland for about two
centuries, and were highly skilled in architecture and other arts from their
long residence in Greece.' The Tuatha de Danaan were the descendants of Danaus,
the son of Belus, who went with his fifty daughters to Argos. In Irish legends
the Tuatha de Danaan, who were considered to be demi-gods, were said to have
possessed a Grail-like vessel. These
teachers of wisdom were the founders of the Druidic priesthood." [Van
