Watchers, Nephilim, Demons, & Princes

WATCHERS, NEPHILIM, DEMONS, & PRINCES

According to historical records, the Watchers (i.e. supposedly 200 angels according to Enoch) and their offspring, the Nephilim (i.e. giants), introduced sexual perversion to mankind, which consists of homosexuality; pedophilia; and bestiality.  A Nephilim is the first generation offspring of a human woman and a divine created being (angel?) called a Watcher.

The Watchers of Genesis 6 (and the book of Enoch) were created by God since they were actually angelic beings and all angels were created.  They were either sent on this mission by God or were known in advance to fulfill this mission including the birth of Nephilim and their destruction.

When the Greek version of the Hebrew Old Testament (the LXX or Septuagint) was translated, the word “Nephilim”, referring to the part-human offspring of the Watchers, was translated gegenes, a word implying “earth born.” This same terminology was used to describe the Greek Titans and other legendary heroes of part-celestial and part-terrestrial origin, such as Hercules (born of Zeus and the mortal Alcmena), Achilles (the Trojan hero son of Thetis and Peleus), and the more ancient Gilgamesh (the two-thirds god and one-third human child of Lugalbanda and Ninsun).

Demons are not fallen angels as some ascribe.  They are the non-human spirits of the Nephilim.  They have a soul obtained from the human side but no human spirit, therefore, salvation is unavailable to them and some are allowed to manifest themselves on the earth.

And Thou knowest how Thy Watchers, the fathers of these spirits, acted in my day: and as for these spirits which are living, imprison them and hold them fast in the place of condemnation, and let them not bring destruction on the sons of thy servant, my God;

And the chief of the spirits, Mastêmâ, [who is Satan] came and said: "Lord, Creator , let some of them remain before me, and let them hearken to my voice, and do all that I shall say unto them;

And He said: "Let the tenth part of them remain before him, and let nine parts descend into the place of condemnation."

Chimeras

Half-animal and half-human creatures like centaurs (the part-human, part-horse offspring of Apollo’s son, Centaurus), chimeras, furies, satyrs, gorgons, nymphs, Minotaurs, and other genetic aberrations were written about in assumed myths and legends.  All of this seems to indicate that the Watchers not only modified human DNA during the construction of Nephilim, but that of animals as well, a point the Book of Enoch supports, saying in the seventh chapter that the fallen angels “sinned” against animals as well as humans.

Other books such as Jubilees add that this interspecies mingling eventually resulted in mutations among normal humans and animals whose “flesh” (genetic makeup) was “corrupted” by the activity, presumably through crossbreeding.

After the Watchers had instructed humans “in the secrets of heaven,” note what the book of Jasher says occurred: “[Then] the sons of men [began teaching] the mixture of animals of one species with the other, in order therewith to provoke the Lord” (4:18).

The phrase “the mixture of animals of one species with the other” does not mean Watchers had taught men hybridization, as this would not have “provoked the Lord.”

If, on the other hand, the Watchers were crossing species boundaries by mixing incompatible animals of one species with the other, such as pig DNA with human DNA then the Lord would be provoked.  There are stories and articles claiming that science is attempting this today.

Some believe the corruption of antediluvian DNA by Watchers was an effort to cut off the birth line of the Messiah. This theory posits that Satan understood the protoevangelium i.e. the promise in Genesis 3:15.

Further Revelations

After their destructive escapades they were placed in Tartarus, according to Peter, and if these are the fallen angels then their regime is over and finished.  Enoch appears to postulate that the watchers will be released at some point in the future.  Thomas Horn at the SkyWatch website, and some of his crew, have presented this information in some of their publications.  However, 2 Peter 2:4 and Jude 1:6 state the watchers (angels who sinned) will be locked in chains until their judgment.

2 Peter 2:4 NET For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but threw them into hell and locked them up in chains in utter darkness, to be kept until the judgment,

Jude 1:6 NET You also know that the angels who did not keep within their proper domain but abandoned their own place of residence, he has kept in eternal chains in utter darkness, locked up for the judgment of the great Day.

According to the Septuagint (LXX) along with excerpts in Daniel speaking of the Prince of Persia and the Prince of Greece as angelic beings, there were 70 additional Watchers placed in authority over the 70 nations that became dispersed at the disbursement of languages at the Towel of Babel.

Deuteronomy 32:8 Brenton (8) When the Most High divided the nations, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the nations according to the number (indefinite multitude) of the angels of God (of the children of Israel in most other translations).

With Daniel speaking of the Princes of Persia and Greece it appears highly likely that God assigned an angelic entity as the ‘god’ of various empires.  The “children of Israel’ statement within the translated texts could possibly be an edit by later priests.

The historian, Diodorus, stated that homosexuality was rampant among the giants.

The sexual practices of the watchers consisted of various forms of ritual magic.  The practice of homosexuality and pedophilia allowed the male sorcerer to access other dimensions to commune with supposed older and stronger entities specifically through the practice of sex with young boys. Sexual vampirism where the sorcerer draws the life force of the young boy to extend his own is a blatant attempt at immortality.  This is said to be a common practice of Aleister Crowley.

Fallen angels taught men the use of magical incantations that would force demons to obey man as recorded by the Recognitions of Clement 4:26-29.

The rabbis are said to have thought the angels were jealous of God's love and attention (i.e., the giving of His law on Mt. Sinai) to fallen mankind and, therefore, were hostile to them.  This hostile attitude could only have happened several centuries after the Flood.  Since the watcher’s invasion of mankind occurred prior to the Flood.

The Gnostic false teachers asserted that salvation was only available by secret passwords through hostile angelic spheres, which led up to the God of heaven. 

The apostle Paul, in his letters, refers not only to good and bad angels, to Satan and to demons.  He uses other expressions to designate ranks of angelic spirits. The terminology is as follows:

'Heavenly, earthly, and subterranean beings,' Phil. 2:10

The actions of the watchers appear to have a Biblical contradiction.  The angels created by God are not considered as having any independence from God.  Are they free thinkers with their own free will?  According to A.B. Davidson in A Theology of the Old Testament, pp. 300-306:

However, there is no dualism or angelic independence from YHWH in the OT. Satan is a servant of YHWH (cf. Job 1-2; Zechariah 3), not an independent, self-directing enemy.

The prophet Daniel speaks of the Prince of Persia, Greece, and the Israelites.  These are not human princes but angelic entities and they apparently rule as they want, although it is questionable whether their ruling deeds are allowed by God.

Daniel 10:20-21 KJV  Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come.  (21)  But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince.

Evil

Evil is real, personal, and present.  A.B. Davidson says there is no ultimate dualism in reality.  Regardless of the source of evil, God is in complete control, thus evil will be defeated, judged and removed from creation.  God is not evil but various scriptures denote that He allows evil circumstances as a teaching lesson of sorts.  It is debatable if God allows the evil to be instigated by an angelic entity or if He does the evil Himself.

Joshua 23:15 KJV  ….. so shall the LORD bring upon you all evil things, until He has destroyed you from off this good land…..

James 4:7 enjoins us to resist the devil (diabolos: slanderer; false accuser) by submit to the will and the laws of God.

James 4:7 NET So submit to God. But resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Ephesians 6:12 NET For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens.

Evil is a revealed part of the Christian's life and worldview. Modern Christians have no right to redefine evil (the demythologizing of Rudolf Baltmann); depersonalize evil (the social structures of Paul Tillich), nor attempt to explain it completely in psychological terms (Sigmund Freud). Its influence is pervasive, but defeated. Believers need to walk in the victory of Christ!

Satan (deceiver; adversary; accuser) was created by God.  The devil was either created specifically to be an adversary or God knew at his creation that he would be an adversary.  God allowed an intruder into the Garden of Eden.  It could have specifically been Satan, or an unnamed Nachash, or a serpent with the original ability to talk and walk.  Whatever this intruder was, it was created by God and allowed into the garden to deceive Eve and then Adam.
