ANDROGYNY: TRANSGENDERISM AND THE LGBT(Q)

The recent (or so it seems) preponderance of people confessing they should have been the opposite sex from the one of which they were born has baffled me.  Many of those individuals, not content by dressing differently, undergo medical procedures and take medicines and hormones to achieve a close (but not real) actual change of external sexual appearances.  (Their sexual mindset and thinking process is undetermined).

There are several scriptural statements by God and the Apostle Paul concerning the sin of homosexuality, lesbianism, and androgynous transgenderism but Romans 1:24-32 appears to sum up the entire movement.

Romans 1:24-28 NET Therefore God gave them over in the desires of their hearts to impurity, to dishonor their bodies among themselves. (25) They exchanged the truth of God for a lie and worshiped and served the creation (i.e. the creature or created things) rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. (26) For this reason God gave them over to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged the natural sexual relations for unnatural ones (i.e. that is contrary to nature), (27) and likewise the men also abandoned natural relations with women (i.e. the natural function of a woman) and were inflamed in their passions for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. (28) And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what should not be done.

Verse 24 above says that God “gave them over to their personal impure hearts allowing them to dishonor their bodies”.  This places the LGBT movement in the position of idolatry, i.e. a form of self-worship rather than the worship of God.  Verse 25 states they consider the Word of God as a lie, although a recently read article claims that many attend some type of church organization.  Due to their opinion of the Word of God, verse 26 states He allowed them to revel in their dishonorable passions.  Note that v.26 claims their LGBT actions are dishonorable (vile, shameful), although several modern pundits claim that it is just another choice that anyone can make.

Verse 26 also rejects lesbianism and v.27 is a repudiation of male homosexuality.  The response to this situation is answered in v.28:  “they did not see fit to acknowledge God, (therefore) God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what should not be done”.  Paul, through the leading of God, declares they “are depraved” as well as vile and dishonorable.

A certain pastor-type person from the Northwest USA, commented on Romans 1:24-27 and stated that Paul was referring to people participating in Greek and Roman cult rituals where same-sex relations were a part of the ceremony.  He claimed this did not apply to regular people who did not visit these cult rituals.

How are their personality and mental thinking affected by their homosexual and androgynous state?  Romans 1:29-31 lists the mental afflictions and disturbing actions they now convey to the world.  Although many attend a type of church organization, v. 30 states they are “haters of God”.  The other adjectives within these verses generally sum up the attitude of many of the left-leaning activists.

Romans 1:29-31 NET They are filled with every kind of unrighteousness, wickedness, covetousness, malice. They are rife with envy, murder, strife, deceit, hostility. They are gossips, (30) slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, contrivers of all sorts of evil, disobedient to parents, (31) senseless, covenant-breakers, heartless, ruthless.

Other scripture verses of interest include:

Genesis 1:27 NET God created humankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them, male and female he created them.

Deuteronomy 22:5 NET A woman must not wear men's clothing, nor should a man dress up in women's clothing, for anyone who does this is offensive to the LORD your God.

Foundation and Basis

The above scripture verses (Romans 1:24-31) claim the LGBT’s basic motivation stems from idolatry and a hatred of God and His Word, which they consider a lie (or at least they claim the scriptures portraying them sinners and law-breakers are either said to be lies, or they attempt to explain them with some nonsensical understanding or they simple rewrite them).

Other writers and Bible teachers say all LGBT people are demon possessed.  Ray Gano, at his Prophezine website, has written several articles on this subject.  Dr. Stephen Jones claims that demonic entities have increased their activity during the final collapse of Mystery Babylon and the soon coming of the Kingdom of God, although he does not specifically claim LGBT people are demon possessed.  It is my opinion that demonic activity may be a plausible answer in some cases but there appears to be more involved.

The supposedly Satanic (snake) entity deceived sin of Eve followed by the purposeful sin of Adam has resulted in the death of all people which has also given them the desire to sin (according to some commentators).  However, Jesus Christ overcame death by resurrection.  Prior to His death He led a sinless life thus overcoming the sin of Adam, thus allowing everyone (past, present, and future) to be resurrected as well, with our sins forgiven if we believe in Him, particularly His words and His actions.  God defined sin through His Law although even those individuals aware of the Laws continue to sin.  Is it possible that generations of sin and debauchery have reduced the human DNA to its modern measurement or is it simple a lack of Biblical (Christian) values? 

Growing up during my school days, I noticed there were several boys who seemed to be girlish and girls who seemed to be boyish.  Even at that time, some of the girls who were overweight and unattractive would wear pants and cut their hair to look more like a man than a woman.  Perhaps they sensed that it was most likely impossible, under those conditions, to have a boyfriend, much less a husband, unless it was a bum with bad intentions, a lack of useful skills, and perhaps a drinking problem .  For some reason, when I recently encountered these individuals at a class reunion, the majority of them claimed to be gay.

Are Transgender People a New Fad?

Recent history has displayed several people dressed as the opposite sex including some males wearing makeup and hair wigs.  At the time they were generally called cross-dressers and the list includes (but not limited to):  Liberace; David Bowie; Lou Reed; Little Richard; Elton John; Marilyn Manson; Tim Curry; Annie Lenox; Iggy Pop; New York Dolls; Adam Lambert; Grace Jones; Conchita Wurst; Red Hot Chili Peppers; and even, on occasion, Kurt Cobain, Mick Jagger, Prince, and Roger Plant.

In the 30’s there was Marlena Dietrich dressing as a man.  At the time it was most likely considered Hollywood theatrics and no one was much concerned.

To my knowledge, none of the people listed above ever went beyond cross-dressing, which was perhaps done for theatrical purposes.  Medical procedures were not involved at that time, perhaps because they were not available.

Within the above video a gay church pastor of some type, who is/was married to another man is interviewed.  He claims that in the Biblical Sodom and Gomorrah story the people within those cities were abusive to their victims and without love, and that it doesn’t apply to the modern gay lifestyles.  He also stated that he lives by the words of Jesus saying, “love thy neighbor as thyself” and the Apostle Paul was mistaken when he wrote the words of Romans 1:24-32 shown above.

Ancient Transgenderism

Steve Barwick writes in his article, Lucifer: The Divine Androgyne, that Lucifer (perhaps he meant Lucifer as the same entity as Satan) has “historically been considered a dual representation of both male and female”.  He then adds the following information:

Lucifer himself is often cast by pagans, occultists, Kabbalists and others as a “transgender” entity, which is to say, having part male and part female characteristics. This transgenderism – known as androgyny -- is symbolic of the “merging of opposites” that constitutes Lucifer’s main line of conquest of God’s children, in which every form of identity, whether national, religious, racial or gender, is being annihilated as all things are blended into one.

Mr. Barwick claims that transgenderism was originally initiated with the pagan goddess known as Ishtar, also known as Inanna, saying that, “her worship was specifically designed to break down all gender distinction and well as socioeconomic distinctions”.  He produces several photos of statues and drawings revealing Ishtar adorned with both female breasts and male genitalia.

A documented Sumerian hymn to Inanna exclaims:

“Inanna was entrusted by Enlil and Ninlil with the capacity to gladden the heart of those who revere her….. to turn a man into a woman and a woman into a man, to change one into the other, to make young women dress as young men on their right side, to make young men dress as young women on their left side, to put spindles into the hands of men….. and to give weapons to the women; to see that women amuse themselves by using children's language, to see that children amuse themselves by using women's language.

According to the occult-inspired Sacred-Texts.com website, androgyny was part of the worship of the gods Hermes and Aphrodite in the pagan Greek mystery religions:

“The term ‘Hermaphrodite’ is defined as: ‘An individual which has the attributes of both Male and Female.’ The term is derived by joining together the two names, viz., Hermes and Aphrodite. The term came into ancient use through the legend of Hermaphroditus, son of Hermes and Aphrodite, who, while bathing, became joined in one body with the nymph Salmacis. The term ‘Androgyne’ is defined as: ‘An individual possessing the attributes of both Male and Female; a Hermaphrodite.’ The term is derived from the combination of two Greek words, viz., ‘Andros,’ meaning ‘a man,’ and ‘Gyne,’ meaning ‘a woman.’”

In today’s world, the ancient practice and religious celebration of androgyny is being reinstituted under the umbrella of the LGBT movement with its heavy emphasis on transgender sexuality and “gender fluidity.”  According to Wikipedia:

“...in certain alchemical sciences, androgyny "depicts the sacred marriage of the masculine principle (Sol) with the feminine principle (Luna) producing the 'Divine Androgyne.' This ‘Divine Androgyne’ is said to be "a representation of the Alchemical Hermetic beliefs in dualism, transformation, and the transcendental perfection of the union of opposites."

Analysis and Personal Thoughts

The LGBT evolution or movement is definitely caused by a lack of love and worship of God.  In other words, it is idolatry even though many of these people attend some type of church such as that of Joel Osteen (if he is still in the preaching business) or another brand of the prosperity gospel. 

It could also be the effect of demon possession and that concept is not being dismissed.  It could be that any type of severe idolatry is the result of demonic activity.

Paul implied that unmarried or uncoupled people could be more Christian-like if they did not get married or coupled.

1 Corinthians 7:8-9 NET (8) To the unmarried and widows I say that it is best for them to remain as I am. (9) But if they do not have self-control, let them get married. For it is better to marry than to burn with sexual desire.

In that regards it would be best if a person did not feel confident becoming married to the opposite sex then perhaps they should remain single and celibate.  Perhaps that will be the admonition given to them by the resurrected and called-up saints of the Most High.  Being single is not a crime or unlawful and one can still have friends and activities.
